Images Naming Conventions and Alt Tags
Alt tags contain the text that appears if images are disabled. They also serve as placeholders of information about the image for text-based browsers such as links/lynx. Modern browsers will display this text when you mouse over the image. Although alt tags were intended to be displayed if images are turned off, they serve as good methods of describing images to search engines. We will use descriptive and accurate keywords to describe the image appropriately when adjusting alt tags.
File names are important. For example, a web page that displays image /2ddw3.jpg with no alt tag means very little to the search engines. However, a page that displays the image redwidgets.jpg and has the alt tag “five red widgets” will paint a better picture to the search engines of what is being displayed.
