New Google AdWords Certification

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Google announced this morning the AdWords Certified Partner Program, a new certification level that marketing and advertising agencies can achieve. This will allow advertisers to ensure their Search Engine Marketing (SEM) agency is at the top of its class. The new certification will require agencies to take more advanced exams than originally offered in the standard Google Advertising Professionals (GAP) Exam. The new exams focus more on search strategy and analysis versus simply recalling knowledge. In essence, this exam will ensure agencies not only know what to do, but how to do it.

For now the two certifications will coexist. However, Sweet Spot is in the process of taking these tests today  (the first day they are available) to ensure we keep our promise to our clients to be on the cutting edge of search marketing tactics. Proof of this certification will be shown with the below badge.

Product Extensions for Your AdWords Ads

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

About a month ago, Sweet Spot’s blog wrote about tying Google Maps with AdWords ads. This was the first ad format extension of many. Another extension was recently released by Google just in time for this year’s prime shopping season.

Google launched product extensions for all US AdWords advertisers. Product extensions are new ways to add more specific information about your products to your PPC ads.

AdWords’ product extensions let you tie your Google Base account with your AdWords account. This lets you show your products directly in search ads, so that when your AdWords text ad appears and your Google Base account contains products that are relevant to the searcher’s query, it will display images, names and prices of your products.

Sweet Spot is working to tie these features into all of its retail accounts. However, if you do not have a Google Base account, Sweet Spot can help set one up as well.

What is the Content Network

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

The Google Content Network has been around a few years now but many advertisers still do not quite know what it is. Well, that is what I am here for.

The Google Content Network is an advertising network. An advertising network facilitates the purchasing of ad space between an advertiser and website publishers. It is difficult for one advertiser to work with thousands of websites, so instead you work with one vendor, the network. Millions of website publishers put their ad space for sale on the ad network and an advertiser can easily advertise across them all from one source.

The Google Content Network can efficiently and effectively meet your advertising needs. Not only is it the largest global advertising network, but it has a huge range of solutions—from contextual targeting to real-time reporting—that help businesses create, launch and optimize campaigns that deliver results.

First introduced by Google, contextual targeting matches the content of your ad to the content of a Web page. For example, if you’re advertising a retirement community, we’ll show your ads to a user viewing a Web page about senior living tips.

Not only can you target relevant content but you can do so in a creative way. The Google Content Network accepts text ads, banner ads and video ads.

The Google Content Network is a great way to achieve your online marketing goals. As always, Sweet Spot is available to help develop an effective Content Network program for your business.

Bid Simulator Released For Select Advertisers

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Google has been testing a new AdWords beta feature since May known as the “bid simulator.” The feature shows a user what their impressions, clicks, costs and ad position would look like if you increased or decreased your maximum bid. Below is a screenshot of the new feature.

Sweet Spot Marketing has had the opportunity to add the bid simulator feature to some of its client accounts. The feature has empowered Sweet Spot Marketing to make more informed decisions about bid changes. Sweet Spot can now more quickly achieve a desired position with minimum risk of overspending. We can also see more clearly if a position is worth achieving. If the third position is $1.00, the second position $1.50 and the first position is $5.00. We can quickly see that the second position will give us the most bang for our buck. The third position is only slightly cheaper than second but second is much more cost efficient than the first.
